What is cataract?
The lens is a small, normally transparent magnifier, located behind the pupil of the eye that can progressively become cloudy for various reasons (age, trauma, inflammation, etc …). That’s cataract.
The eye’s crystalline lens plays a role in the optical balance of the eye: it allows the light to reach the structures that are responsible for image perception: the retina, the optic nerve.
Why and when to operate cataract?
When opacification of the eye’s lens becomes a hindrance in daily or professional activities, the only thing that can improve vision at that point is cataract surgery (provided that there is no other pathology such as a optic nerve or retinal disease that could possibly go unnoticed before surgery).
